In Art-W Studio we have had the privilege of working on an exciting project, continuing with the expansion of an army of Blood Angels in times of the Horus Heresy. This army is in the inhospitable world of Baal, characterized by its reddish and devastated lands, which we have meticulously reflected in our bases.
All the miniatures have been assembled with precision, ensuring that every detail was perfectly aligned. We used a classic Blood Angels color scheme, but with a desaturated tone to add a grimdark touch, ideal for the gloomy environment of Baal.
The bases have been crafted to an Ornate level, using desert textures and yellowish undergrowth to capture the essence of Baal’s devastated landscape. Each miniature has been painted to an Ornate level, highlighting the details and ensuring a cohesive and impressive appearance.
One of the highlights of the project was the client’s request to modify some of the Bloodguard miniatures. This work was carried out by one of our painters, who was dedicated exclusively to ensuring that each modification met the client’s expectations.
Continuity with the color scheme of the previous project was essential for us. We wanted to ensure that there were no noticeable differences between the old and new miniatures. We worked as a team, dividing the work among several painters to optimize time and quality of the final result.

Baal’s Devastation in Miniature: Blood Angels Project

Our client discovered us through forums specialized in Warhammer 40K, where the quality of our previous work was highlighted. Intrigued by our style and meticulousness, he decided to contact us to continue his Blood Angels project, set in the Horus Heresy and located in the devastated world of Baal.
The assignment included the assembly and painting of 2 Contemptor-Incaendus Dreadnoughts, 20 MKIV Space Marines, 20 MKIV Destroyer Squad and 10 Sanguinary Guard. The color scheme was to be classic Blood Angels, but with a grimdark touch, using desaturated tones to create a gloomy atmosphere. The bases were to reflect the reddish and arid landscape of Baal, including yellowish bushes to add authenticity to the environment.
The client also asked us to modify certain details on the Bloodguard miniatures, adding custom elements to make them unique. With these specifications in mind, we dedicated ourselves to ensuring that each miniature not only met, but exceeded the client’s expectations, while maintaining the visual consistency and high-quality standard of their army.

Blood Angels in the Horus Heresy: A New Chapter

The process of this Blood Angels Horus Heressy II project was detailed and organized. We started by assembling the miniatures, including the Contemptor-Incaendus Dreadnoughts and the MKIV Space Marines and Destroyer Squad units. Using the previous painting recipe, we primed and airbrushed the bases on all the miniatures to maintain the uniformity of the grimdark color scheme.
We distributed the work among our painters, with one in charge of the Dreadnoughts and two others responsible for the infantry and heroes. Each miniature was painted to an Ornate level, ensuring that every detail was perfectly captured.
The bases were decorated simultaneously, using desert textures and yellowish undergrowth to reflect Baal’s environment. Reddish pigments added realism to the terrain, creating visual cohesion with the rest of the army.
Throughout the project, we sent daily photos to the client, showing progress and allowing for continuous feedback. In addition, we customized the Bloodguard miniatures according to their wishes, with a painter dedicated to these specific details.
This meticulous and collaborative approach ensured that the project not only met, but exceeded the client’s expectations, resulting in a cohesive and visually stunning army of Blood Angels.
