Color and paint schemes

In this recent project, we set out on an exciting mission unlike any other: to create an all-female Grey Knights army. Through 3D printed heads and legs, we converted each miniature to reflect this original idea, resulting in an army that stands out both for its unique aesthetics and its impressive presence on the battlefield.

The color scheme chosen is classic Grey Knights: silver armor that shines under the light, combined with vibrant tabards and shoulder pads in deep red, enhanced by energy effects in shades of blue and purple that add depth and dynamism to the weapons. The bases have been set in a devastated urban environment, with relief details and 3D printed bits that simulate rubble and destroyed structures. To give them more realism, we applied earthy textures and pigments that evoke an arid and gloomy atmosphere.

Our approach to painting miniatures has been varied, offering a level of detail ranging from game level to ornate and premium. This means that, whether on large pieces such as the Dreadknights or smaller, more detailed ones, each miniature has been treated with special care to maintain the visual coherence of the army. This project has been an exceptional opportunity to merge innovative ideas with the iconic Grey Knights tradition, resulting in an army that stands out for both its technical quality and design creativity.

Transforming Grey Knights: An innovative customization project

Our client got to know us through recommendations from other modeling enthusiasts, who told him about the quality of our previous work and our ability to customize miniatures according to the most innovative ideas. Upon contacting us, he presented us with his project: a Grey Knights army, but with a unique variation, all the infantry troops would be female.

From the beginning, he explained us his vision clearly and concisely, he wanted an army that kept the classic color scheme of the Grey Knights: silver armor, red tabards and energy effects in blue tones, but with a customization that would differentiate it from the rest. To do this, he asked us to convert the miniatures by 3D printing female heads and legs, making sure that his army would have an identity of its own.

In addition, he wanted all the miniatures to be painted to a level that would stand out on the battlefield, with special attention to the bases, which had to reflect a war-torn urban environment. The project promised to be an exciting challenge, and we were thrilled at the opportunity to bring this unique vision to life.

A devastated environment and a different army

The process of this project was a journey of creativity and precision. From day one, we started with the assembly of the miniatures and the conversion of the infantry troops, making sure that the 3D printed heads and legs were seamlessly integrated into the figures. Each day we would send photos to the customer to keep him updated on the progress and receive his feedback.
Once the assembly was complete, we moved on to painting. First, we applied an airbrushed metallic base coat, which served as a canvas for the vibrant red, blue and purple details that would follow. Each unit received special treatment, with particular attention to detail on ornate and premium level miniatures. The bases also received their share of dedication, adding textures and pigments to simulate a desolate and ruined city.

Day by day, photos showed how the army came to life, and the client was impressed with every step of the process. In the end, we achieved an army that not only met his expectations, but also stood out for its uniqueness and quality.
