Seasonal Sylvan Elves
Color and paint schemes

In our last project at Art-W Studio, we had the pleasure of working with an army of Silvan Elves set in the fascinating world of The Old World. This special commission consisted of painting a total of 100 miniatures, all ready to be deployed in the forests of Lorioen.
The client asked us for a game level painting, but with ornate finishes, and we focused on capturing the essence of the spring and autumn seasons in the different units. For the Dancers and Scouts, we opted for vibrant green tones that evoke the freshness of spring, while the Foresters and part of the Eternal Guards sport an autumnal scheme with reddish browns and ochers that recall the warm, muted tones of autumn. This variation in colors not only highlights the individuality of each unit, but also adds an impressive visual richness to the set.
The work on the bases was equally detailed. We made sure that the bases reflected the natural environment of the elves, using a variety of brush and leaves that mimicked the forest floor in different seasons. Each base has about 20 decorative leaves, which gives an incredible authenticity to the set. The final touch to this Seasonal Sylvan Elves was a wet clay finish that, in addition to being realistic, allowed us to fix the natural elements while it was still fresh.

Enchanted Forests and Fallen Leaves: An Army with a Life of Its Own

The client who commissioned this project contacted us after seeing some of our previous work on social networks. He was looking for a studio specialized in Warhammer that could give his Silvan Elves army the care and detail it deserved. From the very beginning, he had a very clear vision: he wanted each unit to reflect the seasons of the Lorioen forest, and for each miniature to have a spectacular finish.
He asked us for a painting scheme divided by seasons. For the Dancers and Scouts, he asked us for fresh, green tones representing spring, full of vitality and vibrant details. On the other hand, for the Foresters and part of the Eternal Guards, he wanted warmer tones, such as browns and ochers, to give an autumnal feel. In addition, the bases had to be full of bushes and leaves, evoking a forest floor full of life.
This Seasonal Sylvan Elves project was a challenge in terms of color coordination and details on the bases, but we were thrilled from the very first moment, as the client gave us creative freedom to capture his vision in each miniature.

Day by Day in the Forest: The Silvan Elf Army

The process of this project went very smoothly from the beginning. We received the miniatures already assembled, all classic Warhammer Fantasy 6th edition lead miniatures. The first thing we did was to check each figure for imperfections, and after making sure they were ready, we started with the color samples. We prepared test schemes for each type of unit, looking to represent spring in the Dancers and Scouts, and autumn in the Foresters and a part of the Eternal Guard.
Once the client approved the schemes, we moved on to the painting phase. Each painter was in charge of a group of units, streamlining the process and making sure to maintain consistency in the details. We airbrushed the bases and then worked on the details by hand, applying oil to define shadows and reliefs. In the meantime, we sent daily photos to the client, showing progress on the painting and bases.
The client told us that he loved how the miniatures captured the seasons he was looking for. The incorporation of brush and leaves on the bases added a natural atmosphere that really enhanced the overall look – a painstaking but rewarding process!
