Under the Banner of the Cross: Black Templars in grimdark style

It all started when this client, a Black Templar enthusiast, contacted us looking for more than just a painting job. He had seen our work on social networks and was impressed with our ability to customize and bring miniatures to life with a style all his own.
His idea was clear: he wanted a complete army that captured the essence of the Black Templar, but with a personal twist. He asked us for something inspired by John Blanche’s grimdark works, with ivory white armor and wine red details. In addition, he wanted an extreme level of customization, with elements such as chains, tabards, crosses, skulls and candles on each figure.
From the first contact, his passion for detail was evident. He asked us not only to customize the miniatures, but also to develop a color scheme perfect for his vision. After several initial samples, he opted for a slightly weathered style, with aging effects and a somber touch.
The project was clear: assemble, convert and paint a Black Templar army that would not only meet, but exceed his expectations, making it a visual benchmark.

One hundred battles reflected in the wear and tear of their armor

The development of this project was as epic as the army we created. From day one, we worked closely with the client, keeping them informed and showing them daily progress to ensure that every decision reflected their vision.
We started with assembly and customization. Each miniature was customized with extra elements: 3D printed resin bits, sculpted tabards and unique details that brought character to the figures. Once approved, we moved on to painting.
For the ivory white armor, we applied initial airbrushed coats, followed by brush details. The wine red coats and tabards were carefully graded to enhance their depth, while gold decorations and weathering effects added authenticity. On key figures, such as the paladin, freehands were made that took detail to the next level.
The bases, which simulate an arid landscape with skulls and rocks, were the last stage before completing the army. Each photographic advance generated an enthusiastic reaction from the client, who could see his vision taking shape day after day. The end result was an army that was as impressive as it was customized.
