Orange Tyranids III

    Orange Tyranids III
    Color and paint schemes

When a client asked us to continue expanding their Tyranid army, we knew we had something special on our hands. This project called for replicating the custom scheme of their swarm fleet, a striking set that combines the pale cadaverous appearance of the skins with the vibrant orange of their shells, accented by magenta OSL effects that give them an eerie alien aura.
The commission included a total of 86 miniatures, ranging from basic infantry such as Hormagaunts and Termagaunts to key figures such as the Broodlord and the Parasite of Mortrex. Following our standard, all line troops were painted at game level, while the centerpieces received an ornate treatment to stand out in the horde.
The bases reflect a devastated urban environment. We used a combination of rough texture and reddish pigments to create a landscape of eerie ruins. In the case of the Gargoyles, we added a special touch: we replaced the plastic supports with 3D printed reinforced concrete pillars, giving a more realistic and powerful sense of flight.
The key to success was our recipe for the shells, applying fluorescent tones that enhance saturation and ensure that each miniature is a visual spectacle.

Ruins, Fluorescence and Pale Skin: A Project of Contrasts

This project started with an email that came to us from an experienced collector who had already trusted us in the past. He asked us to continue expanding his tyranid army, respecting as much as possible the scheme we had previously developed. This client wanted to maintain visual coherence in his collection, making sure that each new miniature would fit perfectly with the existing ones.
The scheme he requested is one of the most striking we have had the pleasure of working on. Pale, almost spectral skins contrasted with a vibrant orange on the shells, enhanced with a fluorescent filter for a striking finish. In addition, it had to include OSL lighting effects in magenta, something that gave a unique alien character to the set.
There were also specific details that required special attention: the Broodlord and the Parasite of Mortrex needed to have an ornate level of paint to stand out, and the Gargoyles needed a support to reinforce their sense of flight, something we solved by using 3D printed reinforced concrete pillars.

Designing Terror: The Magic Behind a Single Army

The day to day of this project was a meticulous journey in which we took care of every detail, maintaining constant communication with our client. From the first assembly to the last touch of paint, we sent her regular updates with progress photos, making sure everything met her expectations.
We started with assembly and an even airbrush application for the pale skins. This first step laid the groundwork for later work, ensuring the cohesion of the entire army. From there, the team distributed the miniatures according to their preferences, streamlining the process and maintaining quality in each piece.
The painting of the shells was especially challenging and satisfying. The fluorescent orange, combined with lilac shades and OSL effects in magenta, achieved the visual impact we were looking for. The bases, meanwhile, perfectly captured the atmosphere of urban ruins, with carefully applied textures and pigments.
The final touch came with the Gargoyles, whose 3D printed bases replaced the traditional supports, achieving an impressive realism.
