In Art-W Studio we have had the pleasure of working on a fascinating army of Grey Knights that transports players to the dark corridors of an imperial palace, where these warriors fight with honor and fury. The project consisted of painting and assembling a Grey Knights Combat Patrol, adding the figure of Kaldor Draigo, a legendary leader of this order.
The challenge here was not only to capture these warriors in all their splendor, but also to create a unique environment to accompany them. For this, we opted for a dark metallic color scheme, with electric blue accents, simulating the psychic effects of their powers. In addition, warm golden details complete the contrast, adding a touch of elegance to the hardness of the armor.
The bases, inspired by the white marble of an imperial palace, have been carefully crafted to offer the sensation of a shining floor, but also damaged by battles. For the premium bases, we ventured to create small steps to give them more volume, bringing an extra dimension to the scene. The assembly process of the miniatures was meticulous, with special attention to the magnetizing of the Dread Knight’s weapons, which offers flexible options for the client.
Every step of the process was carried out at an ornate and premium level, from the metallic base paint, through the gold details and lighting effects, to the finishing touches with OSL. An unparalleled job that brings to life this army of Grey Knights in their unstoppable fight against the forces of chaos.

The Sacred Lightning: Kaldor Draigo’s Army at the Threshold of Chaos

This project started when an enthusiastic Grey Knights collector contacted us. After seeing our artwork on social media, he decided to trust Art-W Studio to bring his vision to life. His idea was clear: a Grey Knights army immortalized in a much darker and dramatic scheme than the classic one, but without losing the essence of the brotherhood.
The client asked us to work with a dark metallic scheme, giving prominence to the light effects, especially in the psychic elements of the miniatures. He wanted to see those flashes of electric blue illuminating the figures, highlighting the energy-charged atmosphere. In addition, he asked us to make the golden details warm, to generate an interesting contrast with the rest of the scheme. As for the bases, he asked us to make them a reflection of an imperial palace in ruins, which implied a white marble work with a realistic texture.
This project was a creative challenge, and we were delighted to see how his idea was transformed into a unique piece that not only met his expectations, but also added a personal and spectacular touch to the army.

Under the Sign of Lightning: The Creation of Psychic Warriors

The creative and technical process behind this Grey Knights army was exciting from the very beginning. We started with the assembly of the miniatures, a delicate and painstaking job that included the addition of magnets for the Dread Knight’s weapons, ensuring greater versatility. As we progressed, we shared progress photos with the client so he could see how his army was taking shape.
Once the progress was approved, we turned our attention to painting, starting with a black primer that provided the perfect base for the dark metallic tones the client had requested. Next, we worked with the airbrush to give the metallic base, then highlighted details such as the golden armor, red capes and weapon grips. Each miniature received an individual treatment, with special attention to OSL’s work on the psychic effects, strategically lighting the figures.
The bases were a challenge, but a fundamental aspect of the project. We used wipes to create the white marble effect and, for the premium bases, we built steps that added volume and realism. Throughout the process, the client was able to follow every step thanks to the daily photos we sent him, making sure everything aligned with his vision. The end result was a truly unique Grey Knights army.
