Harlequin Kill Team
Color and paint schemes
Today, at Art-W Studio, we are pleased to present to you a project that has been both exciting and challenging: the Xenos bands for Kill Team. Of the three, the Harlequins gang has been particularly interesting and has allowed us to deploy all our creativity and skill.
The Harlequins gang is a compact but highly customised team, consisting of 5 Troupes, 1 Troupe Master, 1 Shadowseer and 1 Death Jester. For each figure, we have assembled and magnetised all weapon options, offering the player a rich and versatile experience.
The painting of the miniatures was done with an Ornate level, highlighting the dark beauty of the Harlequins. We were inspired by Games Workshop’s representative colours, achieving a perfect balance between black, blue and purple tones, along with a spectral white for their masks and touches of yellow to create contrast. Weapons and jewels have been painted with a glowing fire effect, representing their connection to the trickster Cegorach. Not forgetting the unmistakable lozenges, hand-painted on their clothing.
As for the bases, they depict a snow-covered meadow field, which complements and contrasts with the colour scheme of the Harlequins. This level of attention to detail ensures that our miniatures stand out both in-game and in the display case, bringing an unrivalled depth and personality.

Customer briefing
I need a Harlequin Kill Team for a tournament
Our reputation at Art-W Studio has always preceded us, and in this case, our client’s passion for the Kill Team game led him straight to us. His request was clear: he wanted us to bring his three Xenos gangs to life, each with their own style and personality (today we bring you the Harlequins).
Especially for the Harlequin, he had very specific requirements. He wanted a colour scheme that followed the Games Workshop tradition, using a patchwork of vibrant colours ranging from deep blacks and blues to purples. In addition, he wanted his masks to have a spectral white and yellow accents interspersed for striking contrast.
But his special request was for the diamonds, a detail so characteristic of the Harlequins. In order not to overload the miniatures, he wanted the diamonds to be limited to certain parts of the clothing. And of course, I wanted every weapon in the band to be magnetised to allow for maximum versatility on the battlefield. It was an exciting challenge for us, and one we accepted with enthusiasm.

Diamond by diamond, the harlequins come alive
The creative journey of this project was both exciting and challenging. Our painter Dani was tasked with bringing the Harlequins to life. With the painstaking task of assembling and magnetising each piece, Dani’s work really began to take shape. The Harlequins, although a small band, required unparalleled attention to detail, given their varied arsenal.
The first step was to paint the sample miniature, with the lozenges on one of the legs and the rest of the garb in a deep black with touches of blue. The purple, blue and yellow details were added strategically to balance the whole.
Dani’s hand painting technique of the lozenges was a gem to see in action. Each diamond was individually highlighted and shaded, then blended smoothly into the rest of the garment. Although a laborious task, the reward was a beautifully detailed and painted miniature.
Finally, the bases were decorated with texture, green grass and snow effects, giving the feeling of a winter meadow in the early morning light.
