Kabal of the Flayed Skull
Color and paint schemes
At Art-W Studio, we have recently completed a spectacular project: a Drukhari army that has become a true work of art. Each miniature was meticulously assembled and painted to achieve a stunning finish.
Our client wanted a bold and vibrant color scheme, with red armor, gold trim, silver weapons, black robes and pale skins, all contrasted with green lights. We drew on the Flayed Skull Cabal for inspiration for these colors. The result is an army that stands out for its cohesion and grimdark style, achieving a perfect balance between the somber and the vibrant.
The bases of the miniatures were decorated to represent an urban environment in ruins. We used coarse-grained textures and painted them in dark gray tones, adding brown and ochre pigments to simulate ruins and rust. This not only adds realism, but also complements the overall color scheme of the army.
The assembly and painting process was a true labor of love. Each miniature was primed in black and then base coats of red were airbrushed on. The heads, skins, wings and sails were painted separately to ensure a perfect finish. The finer details, such as fabrics, weapons and OSL lighting effects, were added by hand, ensuring that each miniature had a professional finish.

Urban Ruins & Red Armor: The Drukhari Army
Our client came to us after seeing our work featured on various Warhammer and modeling forums. Impressed by our level of detail and finish, he decided that we were the right studio to bring his Drukhari army to life. He contacted us with a very clear and specific idea in mind.
The brief was to paint a complete Drukhari army following a very particular color scheme: red armor, black clothing, gold and silver ornaments, and green light effects. The inspiration for this scheme came from the Kabal of the Flayed Skull, a faction known for their dark and aggressive aesthetic.
The client also had some additional requests. He wanted the miniature bases to reflect a crumbling urban environment, with textures and colors that simulated ruins and rust. In addition, he asked us to place special emphasis on the Wracks and Mandrakes units, making sure that their skins and fabrics stood out properly, especially the black skins of the Mandrakes.
This assignment presented an exciting challenge, combining detailed painting techniques with the creation of a cohesive and realistic environment. With a clear vision and constant communication with the client, we began this project with enthusiasm and dedication.

Care and Detail: The Creation of Wracks and Mandrakes
The journey of creating this Drukhari army was intense and rewarding. It all started with the assembly of the miniatures, a process we carried out with great care to ensure that each unit was ready for painting. After the color scheme was approved by the client, we started working on the painting.
Our team was split up to optimize the work: two painters focused on the infantry and two on the vehicles and the Chronos Engines. The miniatures were primed in black and the base coats were airbrushed on, especially highlighting the reds of the armor and helmets. Details such as the skins of the Wracks and Mandrakes, the wings of the Scourges and the sails of the Reavers were painted separately.
Each day, we sent progress photos to the customer, who was able to closely follow the progress and provide feedback. The final details, including fabrics, weapons and OSL light effects, were painted by hand, ensuring that each miniature had a perfect finish.
For the bases, we used coarse-grained textures and pigments that simulated urban ruins. This detail added an extra dimension of realism to the army. The end result was a cohesive and spectacular set that perfectly reflected the client’s vision and our dedication to detail and quality.
