Nighthaunt Army

    Nighthaunt Army
    Color and paint schemes

This project has been, without a doubt, one of our greatest adventures to date: painting a complete Nighthaunt army that gathers practically all the miniatures of the faction. From emblematic pieces like Reikenor the Grimhailer and Valentian Kurds, to spectral hordes like the Grimghast Reapers or the Chainrasps, each figure was treated with the utmost care and attention to detail.
The client asked us for a color scheme inspired by the official Games Workshop color scheme, but with a unique touch from the studio. Thus, we created an ethereal effect on the black robes with transitions to luminous blues and turquoises. The banshees, with their white cloaks, brought an elegant and terrifying contrast to the set. The ornate bases simulate ancient and desolate grounds, with details that tell stories of a world abandoned to the rule of spirits.
Each miniature was assembled by our team before painting, making sure to optimize the process and respect every detail of the original design. We divided the units into manageable blocks to maintain the consistency of the scheme and not lose sight of the final goal: a uniform and visually stunning army.

An Army Beyond Life: The Art of Phantasmal Detailing

The connection with this client came about because of our studio’s reputation in the modeling and miniature painting world. He had heard of us and, after exploring some of our work, decided that we were the right people to bring his Nighthaunt army to life.
His request was very specific: to assemble and paint a complete army ranging from single figures like Lady Olynder to large hordes like the Chainrasps. He asked us to keep the classic outline of the faction, but with our signature grimdark touch. He wanted the black robes to fade into a shimmering turquoise, achieving an ethereal yet terrifying effect. Banshee-based units required a different approach: a pure white cloak to make them stand out.
In addition, the bases had to reflect the gloomy, ghostly theme of the Nighthaunt, with detailed textures and dark colors that told their own story. This project also presented a logistical challenge: initially standard in size, it doubled in size halfway through, demonstrating the client’s confidence in our ability to handle even the largest orders.

Ghosts of the Past: Shaping the Nighthaunts

The process of bringing this Nighthaunt army to life was as challenging as it was rewarding. We started by submitting a sample based on the official scheme, adapted with our signature grimdark touch. Once approved by the client, we moved on to the assembly of the miniatures. Given the size of the order, we worked in blocks, guaranteeing precision and uniformity.
The painting was an exercise of constancy and creativity. We started with a base applied with an airbrush to achieve smooth transitions in the clothing, adding brush details to highlight textures and shadows. To achieve the greenish and ethereal finish of the scheme, we used streaking techniques to add depth and realism. Each unit was carefully worked on, from the towering heroes like Reikenor the Grimhailer to the hordes of Grimghast Reapers.
The client received photos of the daily progress, where the evolution of each miniature and the care in every detail could be appreciated. The bases were painted separately to ensure optimal finishes, recreating the gloomy atmosphere of an abandoned kingdom. Watching the army take shape little by little was an exciting journey that we shared with the client, who was delighted with every step of the process.
